Marina News May 2022

General Marina Stuff – We seem to be having some issues with getting things done in a timely fashion recently. Things like repairing the ice machine at Palm Harbor, and getting quotes on our new Wi-Fi system network from venders.  FPL is supposed to replace all of our security lights in the parking areas with new led lights. Crickets. We are working on spring cleaning and some different upgrades for the marinas but are a bit frustrated waiting on subcontractors. Please bear with us.

Island CoveWe have power washed C-dock and some of the board walk. We have also replaced many dock boards and repaired hand rails all around the marina. We had to make some repairs to the pump out boat and purchase some new hoses.

Palm Harbor MarinaWe have been weeding out the flower beds around the palm trees. We will be trimming all of the palm trees soon. We have fixed the ice machine but need to replace one more part that should be in soon. We have replaced the flag pole with a new one. We have added a couple of new dock boxes and repaired those needing repair.

Yacht Harbor MarinaWe will be replacing the overhead lighting in the ladies room shortly. We have trimmed all of the palm trees and repaired or replaced dock boxes as needed.

Marina Wi-Fi

COX Cable has sent field engineers out to all three marinas to come up with a network design to greatly improve the strength, quality, and speed of the Wi-Fi network. They have finished the design and we are now waiting for the sales team to send us a quote for a new system. We expect a quote from COX within 30 days or less. We are also looking at purchasing our own new hardware and software for a network we would install and manage in-house. Either way a new Wi-Fi network is on the way. Once we have the new network in place we will discontinue the Cox cable TV on the Palm Harbor docks. TV and entertainment will be available through the Wi-Fi network supplying access to infinite video content and live TV.

General Marina Stuff – We will be open seven days a week for the spring boating season starting in 2 weeks. At Island Cove we have cleared the front area and have started our spring cleaning. We will be clearing all of the junk from the sides of the building so if you are storing anything please remove it or it will be gone. We will start on dock board replacement and power washing this month. At Yacht Harbor we hope to do some grading of the parking lot and finish repairs and replacements of dock boxes that need it. At Palm Harbor we added a new dox box/seat on the dock and have added a new dock box to replace a damaged one. We have one other dock box to repair which should be completed soon. Please let us know if anything needs attention and we will do our best to take care of it.

New Docks at Island CoveWe now have all of the permits required to expand our docks with floating docks at Island Cove. The current issues are the time it takes to order and have docks built. It may take as much as a full year to have floating docks built delivered, installed, and operational. The cost has also increased considerably lately making the upgrade even more challenging. We should make a decision soon on how to proceed.

Marina News March 2022

Marina 20th Year Anniversary Island Cove Marina was first purchased by Naybor Properties in February 2002 twenty years ago this month. Palm Harbor was purchased in December of 2002, 19 years ago. And Yacht Harbor was managed by us from 2006 until 2012 when it was purchased 10 years ago but managed by us for 16 years. Eric was here from the beginning and actually had worked at Island Cove, then Bayou Chico Marina, for many years when it was purchased in 2002. Ted has been at the marinas for 17 years and Rich has been working part time for 12 years. And of course there has been many part time summer helpers over the seasons.

During this time we have all met many lifelong friends. Some are still with us at the marinas and many have moved on but all of the friendships have been cherished. Over the years our customers have been wonderful and seem to be happy to be at the marina and away from the stress of daily life. We have always tried to be accommodating and keep our marinas a stress free happy place to be. I want to thank all of our customers for staying with us and if you ever have any issues bring them to our attention and we will continue to do our best to take care of our marina guests. We hope you enjoy the facilities and will stay with us as long as you are boating and remain friends always.

Marina Wi-Fi We have been using the same Wi-Fi system for several years. It is a CloudTrax system using Open Mesh nodes. The technology is still being used but new technology is phasing out the system we are currently using. Like all technology Wi-Fi systems need to be upgraded every few years. The amount of data traffic we currently see at the marinas far exceeds the traffic of just a few years ago. It’s not uncommon to see 2 dozen users at the marinas accessing apps like Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, etc. at the same time. Our somewhat antiquated Wi-Fi network isn’t keeping up with demands and expectations. So we will be upgrading the existing Wi-Fi network with an all new system.

COX Cable has sent field engineers out to all three marinas to come up with a network design to greatly improve the strength, quality, and speed of the Wi-Fi network. We expect a quote from COX within 60 days.

General Marina Stuff – We have cleared the upper property at Island Cove and planted flowers around the sign. We have to do some minor repairs to the sea wall at Yacht Harbor and we are working on cleaning up the parking area and removing some of the trailers and boats in the parking area. We will be spraying and cleaning the pedestals at both Yacht Harbor and Palm Harbor Marinas in the next couple of weeks. We will begin some of our spring cleaning this month.

WeatherIt has been a pretty mild winter this year and the spring weather is just around the corner. In a few weeks things will start to warm up and the boating season will be in full swing before you know it. Boat show season is upon us.
